My family and I lost our Dad 3 years ago to medical malpractice. So we hired a lawyer who not only was a lawyer, but a former doctor as well. From opening statements I knew we were going to lose. Our attorney did not call the right witnesses, his questions to the witnesses (ours & theirs)had nothing to do with our case, and his closing rebuttal statement was a 20 minute rant of nonsense, again having nothing to do with the facts. Well, we did lose and our attorney took it the hardest. He was counting on the big paycheck this lawsuit would bring. Three weeks before the trial, he was literally crying to us about his financial woes, how he was days away from being homeless and asked to borrow money from my family, we have loaned him $3500.00 to date. After the verdice as we were leaving the courthouse, he was going on how we should appeal, and that the judge had made mistakes, etc. We told him it was too soon to talk about an appeal and to give us time. Well, he cornered my sister to the point where I had to physically lead her to her car. A couple of minutes later, our attorney drove up alongside of her and started to angrily throw things around. My husband stepped up to our lawyer and told him to stop, which our lawyer replied F-off. He got in his car and sped away. Meanwhile, the next day, I got a phone call from the hotel that he was staying in (paid for by my family), and he had refused to check out. I then got a call a few hours later from the hotel telling me he just left the hotel without checking out. He had left his personal affects as well as our legal documents. Unfortunately, noone from the family could go into his room to retrieve anything, so while he had left his stuff, we were still being charged for the room. He finally came back the next evening and got his stuff. The man had a complete mental breakdown. Besides doing an inadequate job during our trial, he had put our family through hell 72 hours after the verdict with his scary antics. If this idiot had legal malpractice insurance, we would definitely go after him. But this idiot isn’t responsible enough to be insured. This man should not be practicing law!
