As much as I dislike lawyers in general, I’ll pay one to get me out of a DUI (Driving Under the Influence) charge. Here in North Carolina, they will really bust your ass on a DUI (we call them doowee’s here).
The first thing the police tell you is this: “You have the right to remain silent.” It’s good advice. Too many people give up their rights when arrested, and that’s rarely a smart thing to do. Instead, you should save your breath and save the arguments for court.
The trick is to find one who is cozy with the Assistant DA in court that day. He or she should negotiate with the DA for at least a reduced charge.
